Episode Overview

Henry and Muriel Rush own a duplex in San Francisco, where they live with their two grown daughters: 21-year-old banker Jackie and 18-year-old college freshman Sara, creating a somewhat cramped and uncomfortable atmosphere. Henry, a cartoonist known for his comic strip, Cosmic Cow, shares his home with Muriel, a former musician turned photographer. When their downstairs neighbor, Myron Rafkin, unexpectedly passes away, the family uncovers his hidden identity as a transvestite, realizing the numerous mysterious women Henry had welcomed were actually Rafkin himself. Inspired, Sara suggests that she and Jackie persuade their parents to let them take over Rafkin's apartment. Initially resistant, Henry changes his mind after meeting unsuitable potential tenants, and Muriel helps him see that having the girls move in might be a good solution.
