Cannonball Run 2001

Cannonball Run 2001 (2001)
Overview
In 2001, the USA Network launched *Cannonball Run 2001*, a reality show inspired by the legendary 1970s outlaw road race that sparked the hit *Cannonball Run* movies. The series followed a New York-to-Los Angeles route, featuring five location-based challenges along the way. Development initially bypassed Brock Yates, the original race organizer and trademark holder. The production company only paid Yates for the name rights right before the premiere. Yates was unhappy with the result, calling it fake and staged. In 2005, Yates partnered with Cannonball driver and producer J Sanchez on a more authentic series, *Cannonball: This Is Reality*, tied to the real One Lap of America. The project stalled in 2006 when networks showed no interest.
