Todd, feeling abandoned after his mother’s death, directs his anger at God and turns away from his faith. In an effort to help him reconnect with his beliefs, Ned decides to send Todd to stay with the Simpsons, thinking that their unique and chaotic lifestyle might encourage him to find his faith once more.
