William seeks to inherit his father's title of Earl but soon learns that an enigmatic knight is also vying for the same position. Meanwhile, King Stephen, unnerved by Jack's presence, hires an assassin to eliminate him. In the conflict between King Stephen and Maud, both leaders are captured. Under duress, Philip is coerced into confessing, as Waleran reveals to Maud that he is the traitor responsible for Earl Bartholomew's downfall.
