Underdog, also known as The Underdog Show, captivated audiences as an iconic Saturday morning animated series from October 3, 1964, to March 4, 1967. Originally airing on NBC and later on CBS, it featured 62 episodes and was primarily sponsored by General Mills. The show follows Shoeshine Boy, who transforms into the heroic Underdog whenever his beloved Sweet Polly Purebred faces danger from villains like Simon Bar Sinister and Riff Raff. Notably, Underdog charms viewers with his signature rhyming couplets, declaring, "There's no need to fear, Underdog is here!" Its legacy continued in syndication until 1973.
