After former war photographer Peter Rooker is gunned down, the investigation uncovers a web of connections leading back to tabloid tycoon Eddie Price and his editor, Melissa Booth. Their trail points to a family that was brutally executed by Serbian forces in Bosnia. In an effort to understand the psychological motivations behind the murder, Lynley enlists the help of his wife, Helen, inadvertently setting off a chain of heartbreaking events.
