In 1980, Terry Fox channeled his battle with bone cancer into an unshakable dream: running coast to coast across Canada. Three years after losing his right leg above the knee to osteosarcoma, the 21-year-old set out from Newfoundland, pushing himself to cover more than a marathon daily, aiming for Victoria, British Columbia. He started as a stranger, but his Marathon of Hope soon captured the nation’s spirit. His mission wasn’t fame—it was raising money and awareness for cancer research. Yet, 143 days in, with Canada watching, new tumors forced his journey to a heartbreaking halt.
