The Conductor

Overview

A renowned conductor (Vladas Bagdonas) travels with his orchestra to Jerusalem to perform the "St. Matthew Passion" oratorio. The day before the performance, he receives a telegram announcing that his son, who lived in Israel, has taken his own life. The conductor had disowned his son, convinced his own path was the righteous one. The suicide—and above all the son's farewell note—shatters the maestro, forcing him to reexamine everything he once believed.
