Biography

Lana Turner (February 8, 1921 – June 29, 1995) was an iconic American actress whose career spanned over five decades. Discovered by MGM at just sixteen, she rose to prominence with her role in the 1937 film They Won't Forget. Throughout the late 1930s and early 1940s, she became a household name, appearing in notable films such as Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938) and establishing herself as a leading star with performances in Johnny Eager (1941), Ziegfeld Girl (1941), and Somewhere I'll Find You (1942). Turner garnered a reputation as one of the first Hollywood scream queens with her role in the 1941 horror classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and solidified her status as a glamorous femme fatale in the film noir The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946).

Her appeal endured well into the 1950s, highlighted by her acclaimed performances in The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) and Peyton Place (1957), earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. A major incident in her personal life occurred in 1958 when her daughter, Cheryl Crane, fatally stabbed her lover Johnny Stompanato in what was ruled as self-defense. Despite a decline in film roles in the 1960s, Turner enjoyed a resurgence with a recurring role in the television series Falcon Crest in 1982-1983. In 1991, she made her last television appearance and passed away from throat cancer in 1995.
