Biography

Richard Starkey MBE, born on July 7, 1940, is better recognized by his stage name, Ringo Starr. As the drummer for the iconic band The Beatles, he rose to international stardom. Before joining The Beatles in August 1962, Starr was part of another Liverpool group known as Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, stepping in for Pete Best. While primarily known for his drumming, Ringo also lent his voice to several beloved Beatles tracks, including "With a Little Help from My Friends," "Yellow Submarine," and their rendition of "Act Naturally." He co-wrote "What Goes On" and was the principal writer for "Don't Pass Me By" and "Octopus's Garden."

Starr's unique drumming style has garnered admiration from fellow musicians, with some, like drummer Steve Smith, noting his influence on the perception of drummers as integral to songwriting. Despite his self-described "offbeat" style and limitations as a left-handed drummer using a right-handed kit, he was celebrated as one of the greats, ranking fifth in a 2011 Rolling Stone poll of the best drummers, following legends like John Bonham and Keith Moon.

Beyond music, Starr has had a successful acting career, featuring prominently in several Beatles films and numerous other productions. After the band's breakup in 1970, he enjoyed solo success and collaborated with his former bandmates on various projects. Currently, he continues to tour with his All-Starr Band, captivating audiences around the world.
