Biography

Janis Carter (October 10, 1913 — July 30, 1994) was a prominent actress in film and television during the 1940s and 1950s. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, she pursued her passion for music at Mather College before venturing to New York City with aspirations of an opera career. While she did not achieve her goal in opera, her talent caught the attention of Hollywood mogul Darryl F. Zanuck while she was performing on Broadway, leading to a film contract.

Carter made her cinematic debut in 1941 and went on to have an impressive career, appearing in over 30 feature films with major studios like 20th Century Fox, MGM, Columbia, and RKO. Some of her notable works include "Night Editor" (1946) and "Framed" (1947), where she shared the screen with Glenn Ford, as well as "Flying Leathernecks" (1951) alongside John Wayne.

After her Hollywood tenure, Carter returned to New York and transitioned into television, where she showcased her versatility in various genres, including comedies and dramas. She became well-known as the host of the quiz show "Feather Your Nest," where she appeared opposite Bud Collyer, further solidifying her place in the entertainment industry. Throughout her career, Janis Carter left a lasting impact on both film and television.
