Lena Dunham, born on May 13, 1986, is a multifaceted American writer, director, actress, and producer. She gained widespread recognition as the creator, writer, and lead actress of the HBO series Girls, which aired from 2012 to 2017. Her work on the show garnered her multiple Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe Awards. Dunham made history as the first woman to win the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series, having directed several episodes of Girls.

Her career began with the semi-autobiographical independent film Tiny Furniture, released in 2010, which earned her the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. In addition to her work on Girls, she directed the films Sharp Stick and Catherine Called Birdy in 2022.
