Biography
Sir Christopher Edward Nolan, CBE, born on July 30, 1970, is a prominent British-American film director, screenwriter, and producer. Hailing from Westminster, London, he possesses dual citizenship thanks to his American mother. Nolan is celebrated for his innovative storytelling and masterful direction in a series of critically acclaimed films, including *Memento* (2000), *The Prestige* (2006), *The Dark Knight Trilogy* (2005-2012), *Inception* (2010), *Interstellar* (2014), and *Dunkirk* (2017).
He founded his own production company, Syncopy Films, where he frequently collaborates with his wife, producer Emma Thomas, as well as his brother, screenwriter Jonathan Nolan. Nolan's films are often characterized by their intricate plots, emotional depth, and cutting-edge visual effects, earning him a dedicated fanbase and numerous accolades in the film industry.
In a significant milestone for his career, Nolan was elected president of the Directors Guild of America in 2025, taking over from Lesli Linka Glatter.
