Biography

Atsuko Tanaka (田中 敦子, Tanaka Atsuko), born on November 14, 1962, in Maebashi, Japan, was a celebrated voice actress and narrator whose contributions to the anime and video game industries have left an indelible mark. Her interest in performing arts sparked during her formative years, and while attending Ferris University, she gained initial experience as a background extra at Shochiku. After a stint as an office worker in Tokyo, she pursued her passion further by enrolling in the Tokyo Announcement Academy, which led her to join the talent agency Mausu Promotion, where she remained until her passing on August 20, 2024.

Tanaka is perhaps most renowned for her iconic role as Motoko Kusanagi in the acclaimed Ghost in the Shell franchise, which solidified her status as a prominent figure in voice acting. Her impressive portfolio also includes memorable characters such as Konan in Naruto, Caster in Fate/stay night, and Lisa Lisa in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Additionally, she lent her voice to Chun-Li in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Claudette in Queen's Blade, Francis Midford in Black Butler, Karura in Utawarerumono, and Hanami in Jujutsu Kaisen. Tanaka's portrayal of Kyrie Ushiromiya in Umineko no Naku Koro ni and her work as Bayonetta in the acclaimed Bayonetta series further showcase her versatility and talent.
