Biography
Ken Watanabe (born on October 21, 1959) is a renowned Japanese actor celebrated for his performances across stage, film, and television. He gained significant recognition among English-speaking audiences for his portrayals of tragic hero figures, notably General Tadamichi Kuribayashi in the critically acclaimed film Letters from Iwo Jima and Lord Katsumoto Moritsugu in The Last Samurai. His role in the latter earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Throughout his career, Watanabe has received numerous accolades, including two Japan Academy Prizes for Best Actor; he won in 2007 for his performance in Memories of Tomorrow and again in 2010 for Shizumanu Taiyō.
