Ken Watanabe (born on October 21, 1959) is a renowned Japanese actor celebrated for his performances across stage, film, and television. He gained significant recognition among English-speaking audiences for his portrayals of tragic hero figures, notably General Tadamichi Kuribayashi in the critically acclaimed film Letters from Iwo Jima and Lord Katsumoto Moritsugu in The Last Samurai. His role in the latter earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
