David Duchovny
Biography
David William Duchovny, born on August 7, 1960, in New York City, is a prominent American actor, writer, and director, celebrated primarily for his roles as Fox Mulder in "The X-Files" and Hank Moody in "Californication," both of which earned him Golden Globe accolades. He is the son of Margaret "Meg" Duchovny (née Miller), a school administrator and teacher, and Amram "Ami" Duchovny (1927–2003), a writer and publicist associated with the American Jewish Committee. His father, of Jewish descent from a family that emigrated from Eastern Europe, altered the family name to avoid mispronunciation, while his mother hailed from Aberdeen, Scotland, and was a Lutheran.
Duchovny's educational journey began at Grace Church School and The Collegiate School for Boys in Manhattan. He graduated from Princeton University in 1982, earning a B.A. in English Literature, where he was part of the Charter Club. His poetic talents were recognized with an honorable mention by the Academy of American Poets. He later pursued a Master of Arts in English Literature at Yale University under the tutelage of renowned critic Harold Bloom, although he did not complete his Ph.D. thesis, titled "Magic and Technology in Contemporary Poetry and Prose."
Married to actress Téa Leoni on May 6, 1997, they have two children: daughter Madelaine West, born in 1999, and son Kyd Miller, born in 2002. Duchovny's personal life has seen challenges, including a stint in rehab for sex addiction in 2008 and a couple of separations from Leoni, the first of which was publicly announced in October of that year.
