Biography
Robert Blake, born Michael James Gubitosi on September 18, 1933, and who passed away on March 9, 2023, was a prominent American actor known for his captivating performances across film and television. Early in his career, he was billed as Mickey Gubitosi and later as Bobby Blake. Blake gained significant recognition for his roles in the 1967 film "In Cold Blood" and as the titular character in the 1970s television series "Baretta." He also portrayed the enigmatic Mystery Man in David Lynch's 1997 film "Lost Highway."
Blake's acting journey began in the 1930s, where he showcased his talents as a child performer alongside his family in song and dance routines. He became a household name as a child actor during the last years of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer-era "Our Gang" series from 1939 to 1944 and appeared in 22 films within the Red Ryder franchise. Throughout his early career, he shared the screen with legends such as Laurel and Hardy, John Wayne, and Humphrey Bogart.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Blake resumed his acting career and continued to work in film and television until his last appearance in "Lost Highway." His life took a dramatic turn in 2002 when he was arrested for the murder of his second wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. Although acquitted in criminal court in 2005, he was held liable for her wrongful death in a civil court.
