Walter Clarence "Buck" Taylor, III, born on May 13, 1938, is a distinguished American actor and watercolor artist, celebrated primarily for his portrayal of Newly O'Brien, a gunsmith-turned-deputy, in the iconic television series Gunsmoke. He appeared in 113 episodes over the show's final eight seasons, which aired on CBS from 1967 to 1975. Beyond his acting career, Taylor has embraced his passion for art, focusing particularly on the American West. Notably, he has painted a portrait of his friend and fellow Gunsmoke actor, James Arness. Each year, Taylor lends his artistic talent to design posters for various Texas rodeos, showcasing his love for the culture and landscape of the Lone Star State.
