Terrence Stephen "Steve" McQueen (March 24, 1930 – November 7, 1980) was a renowned American film actor whose rebellious antihero image captured the spirit of the 1960s counterculture, making him one of the highest-grossing stars in cinema during the late 1950s through the 1970s. Often referred to as the "King of Cool," he also competed in motor racing under the pseudonym Harvey Mushman.
McQueen earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in The Sand Pebbles (1966). His filmography boasts several iconic titles, including Love With the Proper Stranger (1963), The Cincinnati Kid (1965), Nevada Smith (1966), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Bullitt (1968), Le Mans (1971), The Getaway (1972), and Papillon (1973). He also featured in popular ensemble films such as The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Great Escape (1963), and The Towering Inferno (1974).
In 1974, McQueen achieved the distinction of being the highest-paid actor in the world, despite not appearing in any films for the subsequent four years.
