Biography

Wesley Addy (August 4, 1913 – December 31, 1996) was a prominent American actor recognized for his diverse contributions to stage and screen. Born Robert Wesley Addy in Omaha, Nebraska, he made a significant mark on Broadway, often sharing the stage with renowned actor Maurice Evans in various Shakespearean productions. Notably, he portrayed Horatio alongside Evans's Hamlet in the celebrated 1953 Hallmark Hall of Fame television adaptation, which was regarded as the finest American television rendition of the play at that time.

In addition to his theatrical endeavors, Addy made a name for himself in television during the 1950s with appearances on the soap opera The Edge of Night. His later television roles included publisher Bill Woodard on Ryan's Hope and patriarch Cabot Alden on the beloved soap Loving, which aired during the 1970s and 1980s.

Addy's film career spanned over four decades, and he frequently collaborated with director Robert Aldrich in notable films such as Kiss Me Deadly and What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? His role as a doctor in Sidney Lumet's Network further showcased his talent, and he reprised his collaboration with Lumet in The Verdict. Among his most memorable performances was as Lt. Commander Alvin Kramer in Tora! Tora! Tora!, where he attempted to alert U.S. officials about the Pearl Harbor attack.

Addy was married to actress Celeste Holm from 1961 until his passing in Danbury, Connecticut, leaving behind a legacy as a talented and versatile performer.
