Biography

Dean Andrews is a notable English actor, best recognized for his portrayal of DS Ray Carling in the acclaimed BBC drama series Life on Mars, a role he reprised in the sequel Ashes to Ashes until 2010. As of April 2019, he took on the character of Will Taylor in the popular ITV soap opera Emmerdale, but his time on the show concluded on December 26, 2024, when his character tragically passed away from a heart attack.

Born in 1963 in Rotherham, Andrews attended Sitwell Junior School and Oakwood Comprehensive School, where he was a classmate of Top Gear presenter James May. His early career began on cruise ships, where he showcased his talents as an entertainer and singer. His big break came when filmmaker Ken Loach cast him in the 2001 film The Navigators, which opened doors for further opportunities.

In 2004, Andrews portrayed Barry Shiel in the Channel 4 drama Buried, which earned a BAFTA for Best Drama Series. He appeared in various dramas, including a role in the 2005 ITV series Wire in the Blood and his iconic role in Life on Mars in 2006. He continued to build his portfolio with appearances in The Body Farm, Marchlands, and The Case in 2011, among others.

In addition to his acting, Andrews has narrated documentaries, including Our Great Yorkshire Life in 2022 and the UK show Casualty 24/7, highlighting his versatile talent in the entertainment industry.
