Biography

Benjamin Schiff Platt, born on September 24, 1993, is a renowned American actor and singer. Hailing from a family with deep ties to the entertainment industry—his father is film and theatre producer Marc Platt, and his mother, philanthropist Julie Platt—Ben began his acting journey in musical theatre as a child. He gained recognition through his performances in notable productions such as The Sound of Music (2006) and The Book of Mormon (2012–2015). His breakthrough came when he originated the titular role in the acclaimed Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen (2015–2017), which garnered him widespread acclaim, including the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, making him the youngest in history to achieve this. He also received a Daytime Emmy and a Grammy Award for his work. In 2021, he reprised his role in the film adaptation produced by his father.

In 2022, Platt portrayed Leo Frank in the New York City Center Gala production of Parade, which moved to Broadway in 2023, earning him further nominations for both a Tony and a Grammy. His film appearances include the Pitch Perfect series (2012–2017) and Theater Camp (2023), which he co-wrote. He has also starred in Netflix's The Politician since 2019, earning a Golden Globe nomination.

Platt signed with Atlantic Records in 2017, releasing his debut album, Sing to Me Instead, in March 2019, followed by Reverie in August 2021. His third album, Honeymind, is set for release on May 31, 2024. In 2017, he was honored as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people.
