Biography
Curt Bois (April 5, 1901 – December 25, 1991) was a notable German actor whose illustrious career spanned an impressive eighty years. Born in Berlin, Bois began his journey in the performing arts at the tender age of six, marking his debut in the silent film "Bauernhaus und Grafenschloß." By 1909, he had already captured audiences' attention with his portrayal of the lead character in "Der Kleine Detektiv" ("The Little Detective").
Throughout his diverse career, Bois showcased his talent across various mediums, including theater, cabaret, musicals, silent films, and "talkies." One of his most memorable roles came in the classic 1942 film "Casablanca," where he played the shrewd Pickpocket, delivering a memorable warning about the dangers of thieves in a scene that is still celebrated today.
In 1934, Bois fled to the United States due to the rising tensions in Germany, initially finding work on Broadway before transitioning to Hollywood by 1937. After World War II, he returned to Germany in 1950 and continued to work in both East and West Germany. His final on-screen appearance was in Wim Wenders' acclaimed film "Der Himmel über Berlin" ("Wings of Desire") in 1987.
Curt Bois lived a full life, passing away in Berlin at the age of ninety, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of cinema and theater.
