Biography
Teddy Robin, born Wai Pang Kwan on March 20, 1945, in Guilin, Guangxi, is a celebrated figure in Hong Kong's entertainment landscape, recognized as a pop singer-songwriter, actor, director, and producer. Launching his music career in the vibrant mid-1960s, he emerged as a prominent voice in the English pop scene during its golden era in Hong Kong. Teddy formed the pioneering rock and roll group, Teddy Robin and the Playboys, where he showcased his talents as both the lead vocalist and guitarist. This band holds the distinction of being the first Chinese-led rock ensemble in the region, achieving significant popularity and influencing the local music culture.
In the 1970s, Teddy expanded his artistic endeavors into the film industry. He made his mark as a producer with the 1979 film "Cops and Robbers" (點指兵兵), which marked the beginning of his impactful contributions behind the camera. Throughout his career, he played crucial roles in notable production companies, including Pearl City Production Company and Cinema City Company Limited, further solidifying his influence on Hong Kong cinema.
