Biography

Denis Law CBE, born on February 24, 1940, is a legendary former Scottish footballer renowned for his role as a forward. He began his professional journey at Huddersfield Town in 1956, where he played for four seasons. In 1960, he transferred to Manchester City for a then-record fee of £55,000, before moving to Torino for £110,000, which marked another record for a British player. However, finding life in Italy challenging, Law returned to England in 1962, joining Manchester United for a record £115,000—a sum equivalent to approximately £3.1 million today.

During his remarkable 11-year tenure at Manchester United, Law became an iconic figure, netting 237 goals in 404 matches, ranking third in the club’s all-time scoring list behind Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton. His accolades include winning the Ballon d'Or in 1964, making him the only Scottish player to achieve this honor. Law played a pivotal role in securing three First Division titles (1965, 1967) and an FA Cup victory in 1963, although he missed the historic European Cup triumph in 1968 due to injury.

After a brief return to Manchester City in 1973, Law represented Scotland in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. He retired shortly after, finishing with 55 caps and sharing the national record with 30 goals. Notably, he holds the Manchester United record for the most goals in a single season with 46. In 2023, he became the last surviving member of the famed "United Trinity," following the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton.
