Biography
Jonathan Stuart Bailey, born on April 25, 1988, is a versatile English actor celebrated for his work across drama, comedy, and musical theater. His impressive accolades include a Laurence Olivier Award, a Critics' Choice Television Award, and a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award.
Bailey's acting journey began in childhood with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and by the age of eight, he had already taken on the role of Gavroche in the West End's production of Les Misérables. Over the years, he has graced the stage in modern plays such as South Downs (2012), The York Realist (2018), and Cock (2022), alongside classical performances in Othello (2013) at the Royal National Theatre and King Lear (2017) at Chichester Festival Theatre. His musical prowess was acknowledged in 2019 when he received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his performance in the gender-swapped revival of Company, following his role in The Last Five Years (2016).
On television, Bailey gained prominence through his performances in the action-adventure series Leonardo (2011-2012) and the musical-comedy Groove High (2012-2013). He is well-known for his roles in the crime drama Broadchurch (2013-2015), the satire W1A (2014-2017), and the comedy Crashing (2016). His portrayal of Anthony Bridgerton in the hit series Bridgerton (2020-present) catapulted him to international fame. In 2023, he earned a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Primetime Emmy nomination for his role in the romantic drama miniseries Fellow Travelers. He is set to appear as Fiyero in the upcoming musical fantasy film Wicked (2024).
