Biography
Martha Maria Yeardley Smith, born on July 3, 1964, is a notable American actress best known for her iconic role as the voice of Lisa Simpson on the long-running animated series, The Simpsons.
Smith embarked on her acting career in 1982 after completing drama school. She relocated to New York City in 1984, where she showcased her talent in the Broadway play The Real Thing, written by Tom Stoppard. Her film career began with a role in Heaven Help Us in 1985, followed by parts in The Legend of Billie Jean and Maximum Overdrive. Moving to Los Angeles in 1986, she landed a recurring role in the TV series Brothers.
In 1987, after auditioning for The Tracey Ullman Show, Smith was cast as Lisa Simpson, a role that would define her career. In 1992, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for her work on the show. Beyond The Simpsons, she has appeared in various television shows and movies, including City Slickers and As Good as It Gets. In 2004, she performed a one-woman show called More in New York City and later produced and starred in the romantic comedy
