Biography

Jack Leon Ruby, originally named Jacob Leon Rubenstein, was born on April 25, 1911, and passed away on January 3, 1967. He was an American nightclub owner and is often connected to organized crime, particularly the Chicago Outfit. Ruby gained notoriety for his dramatic act on November 24, 1963, when he shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald, who had been implicated in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy just two days prior.

Ruby’s actions shocked the nation and captured widespread media attention. Following the murder of Oswald, he was arrested and subsequently convicted of murder by a Dallas jury, leading to a death sentence. However, his conviction was appealed, and a retrial was on the horizon when Ruby's health deteriorated. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and ultimately succumbed to a pulmonary embolism while still incarcerated on January 3, 1967.
