Biography
Marlee Bethany Matlin, born on August 24, 1965, is a celebrated American actress known for her remarkable achievements in the film industry. At the age of 21, she made history as the youngest woman, as well as the first and only deaf actress, to receive the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in "Children of a Lesser God." Throughout her career, Matlin has garnered critical acclaim in both film and television, earning a Golden Globe Award along with two additional nominations and receiving four nominations for the prestigious Emmy Awards. Having lost her hearing at the age of two, Matlin has become a significant advocate for the deaf community and serves as a dedicated member of the National Association of the Deaf.
