Biography

Douglas Henshall, born in November 1965 in Glasgow, Scotland, is a distinguished actor known for his versatile performances across theater, film, and television. Raised in Barrhead as the youngest of three siblings, with a nurse for a mother and a salesman for a father, Henshall discovered his passion for acting during his school years, joining The Scottish Youth Theatre.

After completing his education at Barrhead High School, he pursued formal training at Mountview Theatre School in London. Upon returning to Glasgow, he joined the 7:84 theater company, but soon made his way back to London, where he garnered significant acclaim for his stage work. His notable performances include "Life of Stuff" at the Donmar Warehouse in 1993 and "American Buffalo" at the Young Vic in 1997.

Henshall's film career took off with his role as Edgar in "Angels and Insects" (1995), followed by standout performances in "Orphans" (1998), "The Man with Rain in His Shoes" (1998), "Lawless Heart" (2001), and "It's All About Love" (2003). On television, he gained popularity for roles in series such as "Psychos" (1999), "Kid in the Corner" (1999), and "Loving You" (2003).

In addition to his screen work, Henshall has a rich history in radio drama, performing in adaptations like "Romeo and Juliet" (1999) and "Richard III" (2004). His stage achievements continued with a notable role in Tom Stoppard's 'The Coast of Utopia' at The National Theatre in 2002, and he made his West End debut in 2005 as Biff Loman in Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman," alongside Brian Dennehy.
