David Randall Thom, born on August 21, 1951, is a prominent American sound designer renowned for his innovative contributions to the film industry. Currently serving as the director of sound design at Skywalker Sound, Thom has played a pivotal role in shaping the auditory landscape of numerous iconic films.

His journey into the world of sound began with a series of determined phone calls to renowned sound designer Walter Murch, who graciously invited him to observe a re-mix session for the classic film American Graffiti. During this visit, Thom had the opportunity to connect with industry veterans such as Ben Burtt and Mark Berger, sharing his background as a radio station employee in Berkeley and expressing his desire to transition into film sound.

Throughout his illustrious career, Thom has collaborated on a wide array of acclaimed projects, earning accolades for his exceptional work.
