Biography

Robert John Holthaus, widely recognized as Bob Holt (December 28, 1928 – August 2, 1985), was a prominent American actor celebrated primarily for his extensive voice work in animation and film.

Holt launched his acting career in 1950 with a role as Octavius Caesar in the classic film Julius Caesar. His foray into voice acting began with the 1968 short film Johnny Learns His Manners, where he showcased his versatility by voicing all the characters. Throughout the years, he contributed his voice to notable projects, including Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks and several animated specials based on Dr. Seuss’s works. Among these were The Lorax (1972), Dr. Seuss on the Loose (1973), The Hoober-Bloob Highway (1975), and The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat (1982). He also lent his voice to Homer Zuckerman in the animated adaptation of Charlotte's Web.

Holt's body of work extended beyond children's animation; he voiced characters in adult-oriented films such as the sequel The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat (1974) and contributed to live-action projects, including the blaxploitation movie Abby, where he voiced the Demon. In 1975, he became the voice of Grape Ape on The New Tom and Jerry Show and portrayed Avatar in Ralph Bakshi's animated film Wizards. Holt's legacy continued as he took on the title role in the animated series The Incredible Hulk in 1982, creating a collection of iconic roars that are still referenced today.
