Brett Rice

Biography

Brett Rice hails from Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he was the eldest of four siblings. His educational journey took him through several schools before he ultimately attended Marist Military Academy in Atlanta. After a brief service in the Army, Brett's life took an unexpected turn when he accompanied a friend to a theater audition. While waiting, the director invited him to audition as well, and he secured a role that ignited his passion for theater. Over the next five years, Brett immersed himself in Atlanta's theater scene, auditioning for numerous productions.

His persistence paid off when he landed a part in the pilot for The Catlins in 1982, which led to a two-year contract. He followed this success with roles in The Bear (1984) alongside Gary Busey and in the TV movie Poison Ivy (1985), sharing the screen with Michael J. Fox, Adam Baldwin, and Nancy McKeon. After a period of inactivity, Brett experienced a surge in opportunities throughout the 1990s. His notable television appearances include roles in shows like I'll Fly Away (1991), In the Heat of the Night (1988), and Walker, Texas Ranger (1993).

Brett also made his mark in film, featuring in iconic titles such as Forrest Gump (1994), Edward Scissorhands (1990), and Remember the Titans (2000), where he played Coach Tyrell alongside Denzel Washington. With over 75 credits to his name in both television and film, as well as stage performances, Brett has become a Councilor at Large with SAG, actively engaging in the intricate dynamics of industry negotiations in Los Angeles and New York.
