Biography
MC Lyte, born Lana Moorer on October 11, 1970, stands out as a pioneering American rapper, DJ, actress, model, and entrepreneur. Her musical journey commenced at the young age of 17 when she released her debut single, "I Cram to Understand U (Sam)," in 1988, a poignant exploration of how drug addiction impacts personal relationships. That same year, she unveiled her first album, *Lyte as a Rock*, which featured iconic tracks such as "Paper Thin" and the battle classic "10% Dis." This debut is revered as one of the most significant albums in hip-hop history.
Following her groundbreaking start, MC Lyte continued to solidify her place in the industry with subsequent albums, including *Eyes on This*, which featured the popular track "Cha Cha Cha," as well as *Act Like You Know* and *Ain't No Other*. The latter included "Ruffneck," making her the first solo female rapper to achieve a gold certification. Throughout her career, Lyte has released a total of eight albums.
In addition to her musical accomplishments, MC Lyte has made her mark on film and television, appearing in notable productions such as *Girls Trip* and *Sylvie's Love*.
