Biography

Bernard Jeffrey McCullough, widely recognized as Bernie Mac, was born on October 5, 1957, in Chicago's South Side. He emerged as a prominent figure in the world of comedy, celebrated for his energetic stand-up performances. Mac was a key member of The Original Kings of Comedy, alongside fellow comedians Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, and D. L. Hughley, which significantly boosted his popularity.

In addition to his stand-up career, Mac briefly hosted the HBO program Midnight Mac before transitioning to film. He gained notable recognition for his role as Frank Catton in the 2001 heist classic Ocean's Eleven and took on the title role in the film Mr. 3000. His television career flourished with The Bernie Mac Show, which aired from 2001 to 2006, earning him two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Throughout his filmography, Mac starred in a variety of films, including Booty Call, Friday, The Players Club, Head of State, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Bad Santa, Guess Who, Pride, Soul Men, Transformers, and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.

Although Mac battled sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung condition, he reported that it was in remission as of 2005. Sadly, he passed away on August 9, 2008, due to complications from pneumonia, leaving behind a legacy as one of comedy's greats.
