Joseph Evans Brown (July 28, 1891 – July 6, 1973) was a celebrated American actor and comedian, best known for his charming demeanor, impeccable comedic timing, and signature broad smile. His journey in entertainment began at the tender age of nine when he joined a circus acrobat troupe called the Five Marvelous Ashtons, which performed across the nation on both the circus and vaudeville stages.
Brown briefly pursued a career in professional baseball, playing for three seasons before returning to the circus. He then transitioned to vaudeville and eventually made his mark on Broadway. In the 1920s, he debuted in the musical comedy "Jim Jam Jems," where he began to weave comedy into his performances, establishing himself as a prominent comedian.
Throughout his illustrious career, Joe E. Brown appeared in over 40 films, with standout roles in classics such as "Some Like It Hot" (1959) alongside Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis, and "The Show of Shows" (1929).
