Biography
Renée Kathleen Zellweger, born on April 25, 1969, is a celebrated American actress known for her diverse roles and impressive accolades, including two Academy Awards, two BAFTAs, and four Golden Globe Awards. By 2007, she had established herself as one of the highest-paid actresses in the world.
Growing up in Texas, Zellweger pursued a degree in English literature at the University of Texas at Austin. Initially interested in journalism, she found her passion for acting after performing on stage during her college years. Her early career included minor appearances in films like Dazed and Confused (1993) and Reality Bites (1994). Zellweger's breakout role came in the slasher flick Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994), but she gained widespread recognition with her performances in the romantic comedy Jerry Maguire (1996), the drama One True Thing (1998), and the dark comedy Nurse Betty (2000), the latter earning her a Golden Globe.
Her portrayal of Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) and Roxie Hart in Chicago (2002) earned her consecutive Academy Award nominations for Best Actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Cold Mountain (2003). After a brief hiatus, Zellweger returned to her iconic role in Bridget Jones's Baby (2016) and starred in the Netflix series What/If (2019). In 2020, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Judy Garland in the biopic Judy. Most recently, she took on the role of Pam Hupp in the NBC miniseries The Thing About Pam (2022).
