Biography
Lorraine Ashbourne, born in 1961 in Manchester, is a distinguished English actress known for her work across stage, film, and television. She spent her formative years at Wilbraham High School in Fallowfield and began her acting journey with Stretford Children's Theatre. Her passion for performing arts led her to engage with the University of Manchester Stage Society and the Manchester Youth Theatre. On April 19, 1982, she enrolled at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art to further hone her craft.
Ashbourne's television credits are extensive, featuring in popular British series such as "Playing the Field" (1998), "Unforgotten" (2017), "Grantchester" (2017), "Maigret in Montmartre" (2017), "Midsomer Murders" (2018), "The Street," and "Jericho." As a stage performer, she frequently graced the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, where she took on memorable roles like Kate Hardcastle in "She Stoops to Conquer" and Emilia in "Othello," often alongside her husband, Andy Serkis.
In recent years, Ashbourne garnered attention for her portrayal of Barbara Castle in "The Crown" (2019) and as Mrs. Varley in "Bridgerton" (2020). She also played Joan Nuthall in "Alma's Not Normal" (2020) and Daphne Sparrow in "Sherwood" (2022). Upcoming roles include Karen in "I Hate Suzie" (2024) and a part in "After the Flood" (2024).
