James McAvoy
Biography
James McAvoy, born on April 21, 1979, is a distinguished Scottish actor known for his diverse performances across film, television, and theatre. His acting journey commenced as a teenager in the 1995 film The Near Room, but it was not until 2003 that he transitioned to feature films. McAvoy's early television roles showcased his talent, particularly in the gripping thriller State of Play, the sci-fi miniseries Frank Herbert's Children of Dune, and the critically acclaimed British series Shameless, which won a BAFTA award.
Throughout his career, McAvoy has graced the West End stage and earned four nominations for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. He has also lent his voice to animated films, including Gnomeo & Juliet and its sequel, Sherlock Gnomes, along with Arthur Christmas.
In 2003, he landed a leading role in Bollywood Queen and followed it with a notable performance in Inside I'm Dancing (2004). His portrayal of Mr. Tumnus in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) further established him in the industry. His role in The Last King of Scotland (2006) earned him multiple nominations, including a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor, while the romantic drama Atonement (2007) garnered him a Golden Globe nod.
McAvoy became widely recognized for his role as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise, appearing in several installments from 2011 to 2019. His performance in Filth (2013) earned him the Best Actor award at the British Independent Film Awards. In 2016, he captivated audiences with his portrayal of Kevin Wendell Crumb in M. Night Shyamalan's Split, later reprising the role in Glass (2019). Since 2019, he has taken on the role of Lord Asriel Belacqua in the BBC/HBO fantasy series His Dark Materials.
