Richard Davalos

Biography

Richard Davalos (born November 5, 1935) was a notable American actor known for his compelling performances on both stage and screen.

He gained recognition for his role as James Dean's brother in the classic film East of Eden (1955) and later played the character Blind Dick, a convict, in the iconic film Cool Hand Luke (1967). In 1955, Davalos received the Theatre World Award for his impressive portrayal in Arthur Miller's play, A Memory of Two Mondays.

In addition to his film career, Davalos appeared in the 1961 NBC Civil War television series, The Americans, where he portrayed Jeff, the younger brother who chose to fight for the Confederate Army, contrasting with his older brother Ben, played by Darryl Hickman, who sided with the Union Army.

Davalos was also a family man, being the father of actress Elyssa Davalos and musician Dominique Davalos, as well as the grandfather of actress Alexa Davalos, known for her role in The Chronicles of Riddick. Notably, his image featured prominently on the covers of The Smiths' albums, including Strangeways, Here We Come, Best…I, and …Best II.
