Biography
Jeffrey Jacob Abrams, born on June 27, 1966, is a prominent American director and composer known for his impactful contributions to action, drama, and science fiction films. His writing and production credits include notable movies such as Regarding Henry (1991), Forever Young (1992), Armageddon (1998), Cloverfield (2008), Star Trek (2009), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Abrams' films have achieved remarkable commercial success, amassing over $4 billion worldwide, which places him among the top ten highest-grossing film directors in history.
In addition to his film work, Abrams is the mastermind behind several acclaimed television series, including Felicity (co-creator, 1998–2002), Alias (creator, 2001–2006), Lost (co-creator, 2004–2010), and Fringe (co-creator, 2008–2013). He received two Emmy Awards for his work on Lost, recognizing both his directing and the series as a whole.
As a director, Abrams helmed Mission: Impossible III (2006), Star Trek (2009), Super 8 (2011), and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). He was instrumental in the production and writing of The Force Awakens, which became his highest-grossing film and ranks as the fifth-highest-grossing film ever, unadjusted for inflation. He also played a key role in the subsequent Star Wars projects, acting as executive producer for The Last Jedi (2017) and directing The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
