Philip Jackson, born on June 18, 1948, in Retford, Nottinghamshire, is a distinguished English actor celebrated for his extensive contributions to both television and film. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Chief Inspector Japp in the acclaimed series Agatha Christie's Poirot and as Abbot Hugo in the iconic 1980s series Robin of Sherwood, where he played a memorable role as one of the main antagonists.
Jackson's acting journey began during his time at the University of Bristol, where he studied Drama and German. His theater experience spans multiple cities, including Leeds, Liverpool, and London. Notable stage performances include his role as Pozzo in Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot at London's Queen's Theatre in 1991 and as Willy Loman in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2010. His exceptional talent earned him a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in the film Little Voice (1998).
Over the years, Jackson has made guest appearances in popular television series such as Coronation Street, A Touch of Frost, Foyle's War, and Midsomer Murders.
