Adriana Barraza
Biography
Adriana Barraza González, born on March 5, 1956, is a renowned Mexican actress, director, and acting instructor. Her career took a significant turn in 1999 when she was cast by director Alejandro González Iñárritu as the mother of Gael García Bernal's character in the critically acclaimed film *Amores perros*, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2006, she reunited with Iñárritu for *Babel*, a role that garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, solidifying her status in the film industry.
In Mexico, Barraza is affectionately known as Master Barraza, owing to her collaboration with director Sergio Jiménez, affectionately called El Profe. Together, they established the Actors Workshop in Mexico City, where they honed their own interpretation of Method acting. Initially, Barraza directed episodes of telenovelas, where she also provided coaching to the actors. However, by the 1990s, she chose to embrace the spotlight as a performer.
Today, she runs her own acting school, Adriana Barraza's Black Box, located in Miami, Florida. The school features a talented team that includes her husband, Arnaldo, and her daughter, Carolina, continuing the family legacy in the performing arts.
