Biography
Lea DeLaria, born on May 23, 1958, is a multifaceted American entertainer who excels as a comedian, actress, and jazz vocalist. She made history in 1993 by becoming the first openly gay comedian to perform on American television, making her debut on The Arsenio Hall Show. DeLaria gained widespread recognition for her role as Carrie "Big Boo" Black in the acclaimed Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, which aired from 2013 to 2019.
In addition to her television work, DeLaria has a notable presence on Broadway. She was part of the revival cast of The Rocky Horror Show in 2000, showcasing her talents in musical theater. More recently, she appeared in the 2022 production of POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive, further solidifying her status in the theater community.
