Lyle Talbot
Biography
Lyle Talbot, originally named Lisle Henderson, was born on February 8, 1902, and passed away on March 2, 1996. He was a prominent American actor whose career spanned from the early 1930s to the late 1960s. Talbot made his mark in Hollywood as a versatile performer, appearing in over 150 films and numerous television shows. He became widely recognized for his role as Joe Randolph, the amiable neighbor of Ozzie Nelson, in the beloved ABC sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, a role he held for a decade.
Talbot's film journey began with a contract at Warner Brothers during the dawn of sound cinema. His early roles positioned him as a matinee idol, later transitioning into character parts in a variety of B movies. Noteworthy films in his repertoire include Three on a Match and 20,000 Years in Sing Sing, both released in 1932. He showcased his range in comedies and dramas alike, starring alongside Pat O'Brien in College Coach (1933) and Oil for the Lamps of China (1935), and sharing the screen with icons like Barbara Stanwyck and Ginger Rogers.
In addition to his acting accomplishments, Talbot was a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild and served on its board. His enduring legacy was further explored in a memoir by his daughter, Margaret Talbot, titled The Entertainer: Movies, Magic and My Father's Twentieth Century, published in 2012.
