Biography
Robert Douglas, born Robert Douglas Finlayson on November 9, 1909, in Fenny Stratford, Buckinghamshire, was a distinguished actor and television director and producer. After honing his craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), he made his film debut in 1927 in Bournemouth. The following year, he graced the stage for the first time in "Many Waters" at the Ambassadors Theatre, marking the beginning of a versatile career that seamlessly transitioned into film.
Douglas was known for his distinctive voice and nuanced performances, adeptly shifting between roles, whether embodying a sinister antagonist or a resolute military figure. His impressive body of work included notable films and television shows that showcased his range and talent.
In his personal life, Robert Douglas was married twice, first to actress Dorothy Hyson (1914–1996) and later to Suzanne Weldon (1921–1995). He was the proud father of two children, Lucinda and Robert (Giles).
Douglas passed away on January 11, 1999, in Leucadia, Encinitas, California, at the age of 89, due to natural causes. His ashes were lovingly scattered in the Pacific Ocean, a fitting tribute to a man who made a significant impact on the entertainment industry throughout his lifetime.
