Biography
Jonathan Niven Cryer, born on April 16, 1965, is a multifaceted American actor, screenwriter, director, and producer, known for his diverse contributions to film and television. The son of actress and singer Gretchen Cryer, Jon made his film debut in the 1984 romantic comedy *No Small Affair*. However, it was his iconic role as "Duckie" in the 1986 John Hughes classic *Pretty in Pink* that catapulted him to fame.
In 1998, he showcased his talents behind the camera by writing and producing the independent film *Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God... Be Back by Five*, which garnered positive reviews. Despite his early success in films, Jon faced challenges in the television landscape, with series like *The Famous Teddy Z*, *Partners*, and *The Trouble with Normal* failing to gain traction.
His breakthrough came in 2003 when he was cast as Alan Harper on the CBS sitcom *Two and a Half Men*, alongside Charlie Sheen. This role not only solidified his status in the industry but also earned him a Primetime Emmy Award in 2009, along with three previous nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
