Biography

Chiwetel Umeadi Ejiofor CBE, born on July 10, 1977, is a distinguished British actor known for his remarkable contributions to film and theatre. Throughout his career, he has garnered numerous accolades, including a British Academy Film Award and a Laurence Olivier Award, alongside nominations for an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and five Golden Globe Awards. In recognition of his artistic achievements, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2008 and later elevated to Commander (CBE) in 2015.

Ejiofor's journey in acting began when he joined the National Youth Theatre in 1995 and subsequently attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. At just 19, he made his film debut in Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997), portraying James Covey. His acclaimed performance in Othello (2008) earned him the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. His role as Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave (2013) not only won him the BAFTA Award for Best Actor but also an Academy Award nomination.

His filmography includes notable titles such as Dirty Pretty Things (2002), Love Actually (2003), Kinky Boots (2005), and The Martian (2015). He ventured into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange (2016) and lent his voice to Scar in The Lion King (2019).
