John Fraser
Biography
John Alexander Fraser (1931 - 2020) was a notable Scottish actor and author, celebrated for his captivating roles in film and television. Among his most prominent performances are those in the films "The Good Companions" (1957), "The Trials of Oscar Wilde" (1960), "El Cid" (1961), "Repulsion" (1965), and "Isadora" (1968).
Fraser's career began with a memorable portrayal of Inigo Jollifant in the 1957 adaptation of J. B. Priestley's "The Good Companions." He swiftly gained recognition and took on significant roles in acclaimed films such as "The Trials of Oscar Wilde," where he portrayed Lord Alfred Douglas, as well as in Roman Polanski's psychological thriller "Repulsion," and "Schizo." Fraser also made notable guest appearances in various television series, including "Danger Man" (1964), "Randall and Hopkirk" (1969), "Columbo" (1972), "Doctor Who" (1981), and "The Bill" (1995).
In addition to his acting career, Fraser published his autobiography titled "Close Up" in 2004, where he candidly shared insights into his life as an openly gay man and reflected on his friendships and experiences. His contributions to both the arts and the LGBTQ+ community continue to be celebrated long after his passing.
