Biography
Robert George Young (February 22, 1907 – July 21, 1998) was a prominent American actor celebrated for his memorable performances in television, film, and radio. He is perhaps best recognized for his iconic roles as Jim Anderson in the beloved family series "Father Knows Best," and as the compassionate physician Dr. Marcus Welby in the hit show "Marcus Welby, M.D."
Young's extensive film career spanned from 1931 to 1952, during which he appeared in over 100 films. His journey began on stage before signing with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where he often found himself cast in B movies alongside legendary actresses such as Katharine Hepburn and Joan Crawford. Despite being viewed as a less prominent actor, Young showcased his talent in various films, including notable works like "H.M. Pulham, Esq." and "Claudia."
In the 1940s, Young's career took a turn as he sought more challenging roles in films like "The Enchanted Cottage" and "Crossfire," where he portrayed complex characters that garnered critical acclaim.
